Important Information for Climbing in a Solo Queue:

  • ONE-TRICKING
  • META MAINING
  • LIMITED POOL PICKING
  • BEST-OF SETS METHOD
  • CLOSING OUT

ONE-TRICKING:

This technique is fairly simple to understand. One-tricking is the practise of selecting one Champion and securing them in place no matter the draught that is made available to you. The idea behind this approach is that you get to know your pick so well that you can learn to play them in both favourable and unfavourable matchups, or in circumstances where it might not seem ideal to play them otherwise. Additionally, you have perfected your mechanics on that Champion to the point where you can defeat your rivals in crucial situations when you need to shine.

With this strategy, players frequently favour Champions with high solo-queue volatility. One can think of champions like Master Yi, Yasuo, Katarina, Gangplank, or Lee Sin. When mastered, these Champions’ kits are completely insane for the average player to deal with, or they can operate in such a way that they completely dominate games. But don’t be fooled—maining less powerful Champions can be just as effective, and you can find a one-trick for practically every Champion above Diamond. Some people are simply more physically capable of climbing, while others require effort. Although mastery and fun are the main priorities here. Choose one of the League’s more than 150 Champions, and play them nonstop until the cows come home.

META MAINING:

This strategy differs from One-Tricking by being a little more adaptable. The core of meta maining is directing your play towards the best Champions available at the time. For instance, Champions that you can find scattered throughout different tier lists within the “S” or “A” categories. Because you chose to play the metagame, you are a very adaptable drafter, which is where this strategy usually excels. You have more options because of your willingness to play the broadest range of meta selections, which gives you room to think about factors other than your lane opponent. Sure, you might be selecting a poor opponent matchup that should put you at a disadvantage, but thanks to your flexibility, you can still contribute to your team by

This method’s disadvantages include expertise requirements and a steep learning curve that make it challenging for novice players. Additionally, you are substituting flexibility for familiarity. If your opponent is a one-trick or limited pool player, they’re likely going to have matchup advantages over you and be better able to control the pace of the game if you don’t execute quickly. With this method, you might be able to choose the champion who is stronger on paper or the counter to your opponent.

LIMITED POOL PICKING:

This strategy can be used in conjunction with our first two strategies to provide a unique perspective on climbing. A Limited Pool strategy entails reducing your Champion selection to a set of choices. Be they choices you are personally at ease with, choices that are more in line with the meta, or a combination of the two. The idea is to keep yourself adaptable enough to change in a draught while staying closer to your comfort picks to avoid any mechanical ability decline in high-pressure situations.

A pool of overlapping styles could be one solution, for instance. If Morgana is your primary character, you might list Lux as a secondary character or even Zyra as a backup option. The approach and mindset behind the three choices may differ slightly in terms of direct execution, but they do overlap in some important ways. As a result, you can create this pool to highlight your strengths and what you may have enjoyed or found successful.

Alternately, you could choose the Meta option of being a Lux Main for your Mage, choosing Leona as your Tank, Karma as your Enchanter, and finally Blitz crank as your Hook. This would give you the flexibility to fit into any team composition, allowing you to complete your team. However, because of your familiarity with this setup, you are more focused on getting your specific Champions. However you fine-tune your small pool, the objective is to maintain a 3-5 Champion space. The idea is to occupy a space in mechanical execution similar to One-Tricks while still having the flexibility of meta players. If you’re very skilled, you can even adapt up to seven.

BEST-OF SETS METHOD:

The amount of time you actually spend playing the game adds another layer to climbing, regardless of how you choose to approach your Champion pool. It is reasonable to assume that without investment, your goals cannot be attained. As a result, you must devise a strategy for game logging that suits you the best. Some gamers may discover that they excel at marathoning games and become increasingly sharper as they play more and more. Others may value the time between games to sit and watch their previous performance on video on demand, or they may just want to decompress with some cat videos while waiting in line. Even more may only participate in one or two games a week over the course of a season. In the end, everything comes down to what you like and what works.

After that, you’ll be reviewing VODs. Making notes about what could have gone more smoothly. What you should have seen but didn’t could have accelerated your approach to a roam or discouraged you from making a poor roam. Then, on Tuesday, you start over again, applying the information you had noted the day before as you log your next set of 3 to 5 and take notes once more afterward. Rinse, then carry out this procedure repeatedly. Imagine it being similar to a sports player watching film after a game or practising a specific plan to get ready for a competitor who is known to execute a particular strategy effectively.
