‘Copa eFootball Italia’ represents a new esports venture for Konami and the football simulation gaming sector. The tournament will see the integration of three different players, who will form one team to represent each competing club. These are: a selected youth team player; One professional esports player is currently part of their current squad; A club fan who wins an online qualifying tournament.Earlier this week, Inter Million, one of the competitors in the Coppa eFootball Italia, secured an eFootball-focused partnership with Italian esports outfit Mmakers.

Each club will be represented by three different players: selected youth team players; esports professional; and fans who will emerge from a special qualifying tournament called KONAMICI.Qualification and selection for club representative squads as well as the resulting tournament will take place in phases between December 2022 and April 2023. The KONAMICI qualification phase will start in February 2023.

The Coppa eFootball Italia will conclude with an offline Grand Final weekend held at the Napoli COMICON in the last weekend of April 2023.The winning club will take home an unspecified grand prize, which includes a special eFootball multi-media and gaming center which will be installed at its youth training complex. The Coppa eFootball Italia will also be documented through a series of episodes on eFootball’s YouTube channel, focusing on analysis and highlights as well as interviews and behind-the-scenes content.

In 2021, KONAMI rebranded its football simulation title PES to eFootball, shifting from annual releases to a regularly updated title that is free to play across all platforms. Throughout 2022 the company has signed deals with the likes of several popular football clubs, including Arsenal, Bayern München and Inter Milan.In addition, the company also announced a multi-year partnership with the national federation of the French Football Federation (FFF). This could mean that a tournament similar to the Coppa eFootball Italia could soon be organized in France, involving other licensed national associations.
