Ilya “something” Petrov, a rising pro from Russia, has joined Paper Rex’s VALORANT roster as of today. Something is a skilled Valorant player who is regarded as one of the top prospects from Japan. He has been playing for teams like Insomnia, BLUE BEES, and Sengoku Gaming since March 2021. To join the team, he will fly to Seoul, South Korea.

He specialises in playing duelists like Jett and Raze, giving Paper Rex’s firepower a significant boost in the upcoming Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) 2023: Pacific League, though Riot Games is currently debating whether he is eligible to compete. Just before VCT Pacific League, a rising VALORANT player joins Paper Rex:

According to independent journalist Max Katz, the 21-year-old will join the rest of his teammates in Seoul, South Korea “as soon as possible,” where the VCT Pacific League will begin on Saturday, March 25. Seven players make up Paper Rex’s roster as a result of the newcomers: Patiphan “CigaretteS” Porsi, Jason “f0rsakeN” Susanto, Wang “Jinggg” Jing Jie, Benedict “Benkai” Tan, Aaron “mindfreak” Leonhart, Khalish “d4v41” Rusyaidee, and something else.

Paper Rex competed at VCT LOCK/IN So Paulo, the first VCT event of the year, and were defeated by Cloud9 in Group Alpha’s opening round. Benkai, f0rsakeN, mindfreak, Jinggg, and d4v41 were the participants in that series; CigaretteS served as the group’s backup player. It’s possible that Paper Rex wanted to add a new player in case the team also struggles in the VCT Pacific League. The team may have recognised that player as someone who, despite lacking previous experience at that level, is capable of competing with tier-one teams.

However, the 21-year-old was producing impressive numbers for Sengoku, his most recent team. In the Japan Challengers League Split One, which took place from January to March, Something was arguably the best player. According to VLR.gg’s statistics, he had the highest rating (1.42), ACS (305), K/D (1.65), ADR (194.8), and kills per round (1.09) averages throughout the competition. Sengoku placed fourth despite the fact that the majority of his teammates had considerably more accurate numbers.

The updated Valorant roster of Paper Rex is as follows:

  1. Benedict “Benkai” Tan
  2. Khalish “d4v41” Rusyaidee
  3. Jason “f0rsakeN” Susanto
  4. Aaron “mindfreak” Leonhart
  5. Wang “Jinggg” Jing Jie
  6. Ilia “something” Petrov
  7. Patiphan “CigaretteS” Posri – Substitute
  8. Alexandre “alecks” Sallé – Head Coach

This modification follows the team’s elimination from the VCT 2023: LOCK/IN So Paulo by Cloud9 in the first round. Three weeks later, the group is now prepared to take on a new challenge with a new member and better preparation.

Something frequently plays with Raze but primarily with Reyna and Jett. Given everything he was doing on Sengoku, if Paper Rex does poorly in the VCT Pacific League, he might eventually join their roster of duelists. In their VCT Pacific League debut, Paper Rex will take on DetonatioN FocusMe on Sunday, March 26 at 4am CT.
