More changes are planned for Lifeweaver, according to Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller, who also claims that the game’s newest support will see significant changes in the season five patch that will be released later this month.

In season 5, the most recent Overwatch 2 hero will undergo yet another change:

The biggest draw in the upcoming patch notes, which the Overwatch developers started hinting at on June 6 via a lengthy blog post, will be changes to existing heroes, including for the franchise’s newest character who arrived just a few months ago, since it has been confirmed that there won’t be a new hero coming in season five.

“In season five, there will be quite a few changes (mostly buffs), coming to Lifeweaver,” Keller confirmed. “We’ll have specific details in the patch notes, but players can expect increases to his healing and damage output, a heal on Life Grip, a slightly reduced hitbox, and some quality-of-life changes to Petal Platform.”

“Lifeweaver is a really dynamic hero,” Keller said of the new character added in season four. “Some of the plays people have pulled off with him during season four were pretty astonishing. However, he’s not powerful enough to be a solid pick for most players.”

In the support role, where he is outperformed by essentially every other character on the roster, Lifeweaver is reportedly difficult to manage due to his special kit. Since going live in season four, the new Overwatch hero has already undergone a number of significant changes. However, Keller claims that the battle to make Lifeweaver a wise choice continues.

“Previously, we stated we would like there to be a reason to pick new heroes over others in the roster,” Keller said. “This is still our goal for new heroes—we want them to bring something new to the table. However, at the moment, we are looking for the best way to bring Lifeweaver to a baseline. Once people are playing him more, we will get a cleaner read.”

If players don’t begin using the various components of his kit, Keller stated that Blizzard may consider adding something to it. This implies that his abilities may undergo some sort of revision, and that process would likely start with making him stronger. The release date for Overwatch 2’s fifth season is still unknown, but the live battle pass timer for the current season indicates that it will start on June 13 the following week.
