The new method for creators to start getting a 70/30 split of the money they make through the platform is the Twitch Partner Plus program. The platform has taken a big step with this, despite backlash over its decision to no longer include the split in contracts going forward. This new program does have some fine print provisions, though.

Twitch announced plans to take away some streamers’ former 70/30 revenue split in September of last year. The first $100,000 in earnings on Twitch would still be up for grabs for streamers who were grandfathered into the premium arrangement, but after that, the split would revert to the standard 50/50 split. The new announcement was made because those modifications were supposed to take effect this month, in June 2023.

How to receive the 70/30 split under Twitch’s new Partner Plus program is explained:

Only Partners will be able to participate in the new Twitch Partner Plus program, but that’s not all. According to the official blog post, these streamers had to maintain 350 paying subscribers over three months to be eligible for the program.

Remember that gift subscriptions and Prime memberships are not considered paid subscribers. This implies that only tier 1, 2, or 3 subs will be included in the 350 total.

Additionally, there will be a $100,000 cap on the 70/30 split. Once you have earned that much in 12 months, you will return to the 50/50 split for the remainder of the year. In terms of prime subs, they don’t contribute to that sum. Only compensated or gifted substitutes will count towards the $100,000 cap. This information can be found in the image below or on the Twitch Partner Plus FAQ page.

Many middle-class creators will be able to increase their income up until a certain point before having it drop to the same level thanks to this system. Twitch will carry on as usual if a user doesn’t have 350 paid subscribers.

Contrarily, those who already have tens of thousands of subscribers per month or more will essentially reach US$100,000 faster and not make much more from the rest of the subscribers for the time being. This is true even with the new Twitch Partner Plus system. The purple giant will undoubtedly benefit from this, but many people will still be left wondering how to get a 70/30 split or better, whether on Twitch or elsewhere.
