Zenyatta’s flagship ability was nerfed on July 11, which may have some unintended consequences for tanks. Players of Zenyatta have noticed that they can no longer apply the debuff to DPS players who are far away due to a reduction in the maximum range of Orb of Discord.
“The idea was that if Zenyatta was far away or had to play closer, then they wouldn’t Discord as much,” he said. “But then most Zenyattas now will just Discord the tank which is like, a part of the problem to begin with.”

Emongg finds the change to be particularly aggravating because there is now less likelihood that Orb of Discord will be used on anyone besides them, making it challenging and occasionally impossible to perform the functions of a tank player. “It makes it difficult for the tank to be able to do anything or want to do anything,” he said. “You just get Discorded and can’t take that much damage.”
Emongg continued by pointing out that tanks frequently seek to engage in combat within a 20–30 meter radius of an enemy Zenyatta’s typical fighting position, and that frequently, this area does not provide them with the opportunity to take cover to remove the debuff. In addition, if they kite away to remove the debuff, the Zenyatta can simply move forward, giving the opposing team an advantage in fighting space.
