VCT Champions 2023, the first significant VALORANT esports competition in the United States, attracted a lot of notable personalities, including streamers, mainstream celebrities, and professional players who weren’t competing. However, not all of them were well received. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, was present for the Aug. 26 grand final, and the VALORANT Champions quickly identified him amid other well-known individuals present at the KIA Forum. But as soon as the camera focused on Musk, the audience let their true feelings about him be known.

The audience quickly joined in jeering Musk with a chorus of boos, despite the fact that he was hardly discernible in the dark camera shot. It was probably the most disapproving collective feeling the crowd had shown all day, with Evil Geniuses putting up a strong display for North America.

Elon Musk unexpectedly joins the VALORANT Champions, but the crowd wasn’t happy about it:

Caster Lauren “Pansy” Scott couldn’t help but comment, speculating that the raucous clamor from the audience was even “a bigger reaction than TenZ got.” Despite being among the crowd and being mentioned on the broadcast, Tyson “TenZ” Ngo, a professional player for the Sentinels, received a considerably more favorable response. No response was quite as persistent as the jeers for Musk, but other signs and people were also present during game pauses and in between rounds.

When the game’s second round started and EG was ahead of Singapore’s Paper Rex, the spectators gathered to jeer Musk again, specifically for changing Twitter’s name to X. The crowd shouted above the game’s noises, “Bring back Twitter!”

Esports and gaming have flourished on Twitter for a very long time. The platform’s centralized yet personal features provide the ideal setting for gatherings. Even during commercial breaks and technical interruptions, the VCT shows tweets on their official broadcast. However, veteran users and members of the esports community are losing the Twitter they once knew and loved as a result of Musk’s rebranding. Thus, the mockery of Musk persisted.

Prior to the VALORANT Champions match, Andrej “Babybay” Francisty of FaZe Clan noticed that Musk was also seen outside the arena. Ben Affleck, a well-known actor, also made an appearance with his children to check out the action and purchase some cool merchandise. The 2023 VALORANT Champions Tour season came to an end this past weekend in Los Angeles when EG triumphed to win the VCT 2023 world championship.
