The Dragon Ball animation studio Toei Animation has hinted at a new project that will be revealed on this year’s special Goku Day as Goku Day draws near. The studio does choose to unveil new projects on that day, so fans may expect something significant even though the studio hasn’t revealed or offered any hints as to what will be teased.
The official day to recognize Goku’s influence on the world is known as Goku Day. The day was chosen based on how May 9—5/9 in Japanese—was written. May 9 was designated as Goku Day because the Japanese characters for “Go” and “Ku” can both be read as the same letter.
Given that the brand hasn’t ordered an anime in two years, most fans anticipate Toei Animation will reveal a new Dragon Ball anime on Goku Day. However, there have been persistent rumors of a web series, and fans have been hoping that it will carry on from the DBS series. Fans are left to assume that manga writer Toyotaro foreshadowed a major announcement for the franchise, scheduled to unveil on May 9, by including an easter egg in the book’s chapter 80 that says “59,” a hint towards May 9. Fans will therefore have to wait until Goku Day to learn what Toei Animation has in store. Fans can only guess what will happen till that time.

According to leaks from @oecuf0, the studio is planning to reveal a new project on the forthcoming Goku Day on May 9, 2023, because no announcements were made in 2022. Even One Piece lovers should be ready since Toei Animation may disclose something on May 5, Luffy’s birthday. The Twitter account @DBSChronicles even made it clear that Toei Animation was the source of the leak and that, if the information turns out to be untrue, the studio is to blame and not the leaker.
