In the ongoing Code arc, Boruto Chapter 69 saw an interesting development. The heroes were finally greeted by the elusive Eida. With a look and an unknown power, she was able to sway the previously serious Delta, leaving her creator Amado shivering as Code drove his nails into him. The big question on everyone’s mind at this point is: what does Shikamaru intend to do now that he’s face-to-face with Eida? While the previous two chapters appeared to give Konoha’s shinobi some much-needed breathing room, the standoff is likely to continue in this chapter unless Shikamaru is able to fake his way out. Things are heating up again, with Kawaki awake and Sasuke, Boruto, and Naruto hurrying over to Amado’s laboratory.

Chapter 69 began with Eida’s entrance, which prevented even the ferocious android Delta from attacking. It also revealed several key facts about Code’s benefactor: she’s in love with Kawaki and doesn’t want him to be hurt, she has a special ability that neutralises anyone attempting to harm her and either makes them in love with her (Delta) or a variety of other symptoms like headaches and hypertension. She will remain with Code as long as he follows her orders.
Meanwhile, Sasuke apologises to Boruto for allegedly failing as a mentor and not being present for him. Fans believe that this is a death flag for Sasuke, indicating that he will die in the future. Given how far in the future the anticipated future is at the start, it’s unlikely that will happen in this chapter. Couple this with Mitsuki and Sarada saying they need to get stronger if they’re going to help Boruto with these fearsome foes, and a Mitsuki teasing Sarada about liking Boruto, and it’s clear that Boruto and Sasuke will get there, and some tension will emerge as a result.

In terms of fallout tension, Naruto and Kawaki both openly admitted to Sumire that he killed Boruto to save his own life. Before being summoned by Ino, Naruto reiterated that he would not give up on Kawaki and that everyone in the Leaf is family to him. Lord Seventh, given his speed, would most likely arrive first and encounter a stalling Ino.
This brings us to the burning question on everyone’s mind. What exactly does Shikamaru intend to do? Possession of His Shadow Code was influenced by Jutstu, which is why he is attempting to persuade Amado to remove his limiters, Delta is down, and he is alone in the room with Eida. While he appears to be in control of his mental faculties, knowing better than to have people burst in and potentially ensnare him, he is currently forced to stall, bluff, or try to talk his way out of this dangerous situation by attempting to entice Eida over to Konoha’s side in exchange for access to Kawaki.
If this series has taught fans anything, it’s that talking usually helps to ease a situation and stall time, and in this case, to entice an enemy to your side. If this fails, the others will have to burst through the door, hoping to survive Eida’s abilities and charms. That, or Shikamaru is playing a long game and making it up as he goes. Fans will have to wait with eager anticipation to see how this tense standoff ends.
