Attack on Titan Final Season: An Epic Finale Revealed

The exclusive preview of Attack on Titan Final Season: THE FINAL CHAPTERS Part 2 left fans on the edge of their seats. The brief yet captivating glimpse showcased the intense showdown between the main cast and Eren in his formidable Founding Titan form. The anime’s conclusion remains faithful to the divisive closing events of the manga, ensuring a true-to-source adaptation. Mikasa’s parting words in the trailer, “I’ll see you again, Eren,” echo the sentiment from the manga’s climactic final battle. Excitement reached its peak as fans eagerly anticipate the release of the Fall premiere.

Exciting Original Projects on the Horizon

Studio MAPPA shared their future endeavors during the panels, unveiling two promising original projects that left attendees buzzing with anticipation. Bucchigiri?! is an enthralling series, directed by the talented Hiroko Utsumi, known for her outstanding work on Free!, Sk8 the Infinity, and Banana Fish. This anime introduces a captivating blend of delinquency and Arabian Nights, breathing fresh life into the emerging “hot guys doing hot things” genre. Fans can mark their calendars for the Crunchyroll release in January 2024.

Mari Okada’s Alice to Therese no Maboroshi Kj, another eagerly awaited original film, promises to take viewers on an engrossing and thought-provoking trip. The global Covid-19 outbreak and the ensuing quarantine served as inspiration for the trailer’s gloomy plot, dubbed a ‘apocalyptic love story’. The story takes place in a small village that is stranded after a mystery explosion and where transformation has become an elusive idea. Famed Japanese singer-songwriter Miyuki Nakajima contributes her melodic voice to the movie’s main theme, marking her impressive entry into the world of animation production and heightening the appeal of the picture. Within the next two months, the movie, which offers a moving depiction of the state of the world today, will be released.

Insights into Anime Production

Director Kiyoshi Matsuda shared captivating insights into the production process of Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill. The anime’s unique approach to cooking scenes impressed viewers, as they were meticulously crafted based on recordings of professional chefs preparing the delectable meals. Utilizing rotoscoping techniques, the footage was seamlessly transformed into mouth-watering visuals that tantalized the audience. Matsuda stressed that this process was no shortcut, as meticulous consideration was given to ensuring the cooking scenes blended naturally into various outdoor environments. Notably, he mentioned the challenges and rewards of capturing the evening atmosphere, where the darker color palette necessitated extra effort to make the food stand out and entice the viewer.

Hell’s Paradise: A Director’s Journey

Kaori Makita, the talented director behind Hell’s Paradise, expressed her relief following the successful first season and her excitement at attending Anime Expo. With the second season already confirmed, Makita shared her vision for adapting the beloved manga into an anime. Notably, she emphasized her team’s dedication to portraying Gabimaru’s arduous struggle against Zhu Jin, a pivotal moment in episode nine. Additionally, Makita highlighted the allure of the series, particularly its depiction of “Gods” that aren’t divine, which drew her and her team to the source material.

A Strike Impacts Attendance

While the second MAPPA panel held on July 2nd had a smaller audience compared to the first panel on July 1st, several factors contributed to the lower turnout. Scheduling conflicts and overlapping panels played a role, but the Southern California Hotel Workers Union strike further impacted attendance. As the panel took place in the nearby J.W. Marriott hotel, striking workers obstructed access to the building, urging Anime Expo attendees to stand in solidarity and boycott events hosted at the hotel. The call to action resonated, evident in the significant amount of available seating during the second day’s panel, in stark contrast to the near-capacity attendance before the strike.

An Unforgettable Showcase

Studio MAPPA’s panels at Anime Expo left an indelible mark on attendees, offering tantalizing glimpses into highly anticipated projects and providing valuable insights into the art of anime production. With Attack on Titan Final Season: THE FINAL CHAPTERS Part 2 on the horizon and an array of original series and films in the pipeline, fans can eagerly anticipate the studio’s continued excellence in storytelling and animation. Studio MAPPA’s innovative approach and dedication to their craft solidify their position as a prominent force in the anime industry, captivating audiences around the globe.
