League of Legends meta is constantly changing due to the addition and removal of important features, necessitating frequent strategy revisions from players. Large enough adjustments can shake up a patch and cause unexpected trends to emerge, even though the most significant changes are usually saved for the annual preseason.

Even though Patch 13.15 didn’t make any significant adjustments that directly affected the ADC role, many players have chosen to reintroduce mages into the bot lane as a way to counteract the snowballs of some of the game’s most stifling marksmen. This occurs in response to the rising frequency of AD-centric champions like Tristana, Zed, and Naafiri showing up in the mid-lane, which creates opportunities for AP-centric champions to show up elsewhere.

According to the statistics website OP.GG, Seraphine, and Swain both currently have win rates in high Elo bot lanes that are above 55%, but they are not as popular as more meta picks like Ashe, Kai’Sa, and Ezreal, which results in pick rates that are less than 2%. Karthus and Ziggs, who are not far behind them, have win rates of 54 and 53 percent, respectively.

These champions can not only deal effective burst damage from a distance when used in conjunction with the right engage or tank support, but they can also deal powerful wave clear even with only a few items at their disposal. These supports can also guarantee their safety and enable them to reach the significant power spike that just a Mythic item can bring, as many of these mages struggle primarily with mobility and close-quarters combat.

Unlike most ADCs, each of these four mages at the top of the ADC standings has access to additional crowd control. These particular champions have access to tools that marksmen frequently lack in their scaling efforts, whether it be Swain’s E dragging enemies back, Seraphine’s ultimate charming a line of adversaries, or Ziggs melting towers with his W.

Because Riot Games hasn’t dealt with mages in the ADC role particularly harshly in the past, they will likely continue to flourish among players who feel comfortable using them outside of the mid-lane. Adjustments might be made in the future if these champions or other players turn out to be detrimental to the bot lane’s state.
