Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo) won stage 16 of La Vuelta 22 after Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) attacked in the streets of Tomares. Rogic was looking to close the gap on Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) after suffering a puncture inside the last 3km, but himself was out of the race with 75m to go. Remco Evenepol holds the overall race lead for another day leading Primož Roglič behind and Enric Mas (Movistar).

With 5 stages left to go, cyclists will aim to push themselves to the limit as the tour concludes on 9th September 2022. Stage 16 was one of its flattest stages in it’s grand majority which began the start of the final week. Roglic made an eight-second gain on Evenepoel and was awarded the same time as the chasers. Stage 17 is set to get underway on Tuesday, September 6 with the battle for the red jersey heating up.
