The UCI Road World Championships 2022 took place from September 18 to 25, 2022, at Wollongong in New South Wales, Australia. Earlier, the UCI had announced the addition of the Women’s U23 division to the road and time trial races in February 2022. Tobias Foss of Norway won the men’s time trial on the first day of the competition. On Sunday, the cyclist won the race in Wollongong, Australia, by 2.95 seconds. Ellen van Dijk of the Netherlands won the women’s race for the second consecutive year. It is her third gold medal in the tournament overall, having won the rainbow stripes in 2013.
On the closing day of the event, Remco Evenepoel clinched the men’s elite road race on September 25, Sunday. The Belgian cyclist scripted history by earning his first elite world title just weeks after winning his first Grand Tour overall title at the Vuelta a Espana. With this, he became the fourth athlete to achieve this feat of winning a Monument, a Grand Tour, and a World Championship in the same year, joining Alfredo Binda, Eddy Merckx, and Bernard Hinault.
