The Indian cricket team is the latest entry in the long list of injuries. India’s no.1 all-rounder Hardik Pandya was injured against Bangladesh and he was ruled out of the next match in Dharamsala.. Subsequently, it has raised a big question as to who will fill in his shoes ahead of the Cricket World Cup 2023 match against New Zealand on Sunday. Hardik underwent scans following the injury in Pune on Thursday and is heading to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for his recovery.

Who will be the potential replacement for Hardik Pandya?

Hardik Pandya’s injury has left India in a spot of bother ahead of their big match against New Zealand. In his absence, the onus will be on Shardul Thakur to fulfil the role of a finisher. However, Hardik lends a critical balance to the side. Naturally, it remains to be seen what combination the team goes with in his absence. In Hardik’s presence, India has the cushion of six bowling options and his finishing skills come in handy at number six. Hardik’s absence will give the onus of vice-captaincy on the shoulders of KL Rahul. Rahul has been in good touch already and the next test will be to

“Team India vice-captain Hardik Pandya sustained an injury to his left ankle while fielding off his own bowling during India’s match against Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune,” said the BCCI in a statement.

However, India’s injury problems have increased many-fold after both Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav look doubtful to start for the men in blue against the Kiwis. Surya suffered an injury on his wrist in the nets. On the other hand, according to various reports, Ishan Kishan has been stung by a bee. Naturally, in the absence of Hardik, Surya and Kishan there are chances that Ashwin might get a chance. However, it needs to be seen whether India goes for an all-rounder or for a proper bowler. Given the batting prowess of the Kiwis, India will be tempted to use a proper bowler in place of Pandya. Naturally, in that case Mohammad Shami will be the number one on the list. Shami has not yet featured for team India in any fixture.
