Keshav Maharaj is a professional cricketer from South Africa who plays for the national team in Tests, One Day Internationals (ODIs), and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). He currently serves as the vice-captain of the limited overs side. Maharaj began his career in first-class cricket in 2006 and made his Test debut in November 2016. Known for his left-arm orthodox spin bowling and batting abilities lower down the order, he represents KwaZulu-Natal and Dolphins in domestic cricket.

Born on February 7, 1990 in Durban, South Africa to Atmanand and Kanchan Mala, Maharaj is of Indian descent. Beginning his cricket career at a young age, he played for Natal Schools at the Under-19 level before making his first-class debut for the Dolphins in 2008 when he was just 18 years old. Maharaj entered the international cricket scene representing South Africa in a Test match against India in Nagpur back in 2015. On his debut, he made an impact by taking 3 wickets, one of them being the prized wicket of Virat Kohli.

Maharaj is now a permanent member of the South African Test team, recognized for his precision, command, and prowess in bowling extended periods. Additionally, he has honed his skills as a valuable lower-order batsman.In 2018, Maharaj took on the role of captain for the Dolphins cricket team. Under his leadership, the team achieved their first CSA T20 Challenge championship in 2019. In 2021, Maharaj was named the vice-captain of the South African Test team. He then assumed the role of captain in 2022 following Dean Elgar’s resignation.
