South African batters Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram smashed unbeaten half-centuries to help the team post a total of 189/2 against England, in their ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 encounter. Van der Dussen accumulated 94 runs from 60 deliveries in an innings comprising of five boundaries and six sixes. The tally was accumulated at a strike rate of 156.67. Markram was supremely impressive as well, smashing 52 runs off 25 balls with the innings including two fours and four maximums. Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali were the pick of the bowlers for England, chipping in with a dismissal apiece.

“A lot of credit must go to Rassie and even Quinny, the start they gave, it let us come in and play freely. Allowed us to play our roles and it looks good when it comes off. The wicket is probably better than most of the pitches here, but it’s still holding at times. But I think we can be satisfied with the score we have. We have got something to bowl at, it’s not in our control, but our bowling attack has been incredible right throughout the tournament,” stated Markram as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Eoin Morgan wins toss, opts to field against Temba Bavuma-led South Africa

England skipper Eoin Morgan opted to field after winning the toss in the T20 World Cup 2021 encounter against Temba Bavuma-led South Africa. Morgan’s team has gone with only one change as Mark Wood replaces Tymal Mills, marking the only difference in their lineup from the previous game. South Africa are going in with an unchanged side.

Bavuma admitted that he would have looked to field as well. However, he expressed eagerness to defend a competitive total after starting well with the bat.

“We need to start well with the bat and then try and defend it”

“Were looking to bowl as well, but now we need to start well with the bat and then try and defend it. We need to do well in the batting powerplay, lay a foundation and then plan ahead. We’re playing the same team,” said the South African, expressing his immense confidence.

Morgan termed his decision to field as being influenced by the good wicket, with dew expected to play a role.

“We will bowl first. Looks like a good wicket, dew will play a role here, as he saw against Sri Lanka. It’s a different challenge to play here, we saw an unbelievable innings from Jos Buttler the other day. We’ll have to give our best in every match. One forced change – Mark Wood is in, his first game of the tournament, replaces Tymal Mills,” stated the England skipper.
