The 2024 T20 World Cup’s USA leg is set to take place in New York, Texas, and Florida, as per an announcement by the ICC. While venues in Texas and Florida, namely Grand Prairie and Broward County, respectively, already possess infrastructure for hosting games, the stadium capacities at both locations will be expanded. For New York, a new 34,000-seat modular stadium will be constructed at Eisenhower Park, situated 30 miles east of Manhattan in the outskirts of New York City.

The decision to host matches in these locations comes after inspections conducted earlier this year. Morrisville in North Carolina, which was initially shortlisted and had hosted Major League Cricket games alongside Grand Prairie, was not selected. ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice expressed excitement about using modular stadium technology to bring world-class cricket to a location that has not previously hosted an ICC global event. This decision aligns with the ICC’s goal of growing the game in the North American market and its ambition to have cricket featured in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games (LA28). Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman expressed confidence in New York’s ability to provide a successful fan experience during the T20 World Cup, citing past success in hosting large-scale events on the world stage.

The 2024 T20 World Cup will introduce a different format compared to the last two editions. In the first round, the 20 teams will be divided into four groups of five each, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Super 8s. The Super 8 teams will be further divided into two groups of four each, with the top two teams from each group proceeding to the semi-finals. This tournament is part of the ICC’s next commercial cycle from 2024-2031, which was finalized in 2021.
