Mumbai Indians’ record against Kolkata Knight Riders is simply magnificent. Out of 27 matches, the five-time champions have won 21 times in the IPL. Kolkata Knight Riders have managed to beat Mumbai Indians twice in the same edition only once. In 2014, Kolkata Knight Riders managed to beat Mumbai Indians in two consecutive games. That was the last time since they won the title. The dominance of the Mumbai Indians is all because of one person. As the game takes place in Chepauk, this batsman is on the cusp of a special record.

Rohit Sharma has transformed the fortunes of the Mumbai Indians in such a way that they are a powerful side in the IPL. However, it is Rohit’s exploits against Kolkata Knight Riders that put him in an elite list. Rohit has 939 runs in 27 matches against Kolkata Knight Riders. If he scores 61 runs on Tuesday, he will become the first player in IPL history to score 1000 runs against one opponent.

In elite company

Rohit’s tally of 939 runs in the most against any opponent. Virat Kohli is second on the list with 897 runs against Delhi Capitals and 887 runs against Chennai Super Kings. David Warner is the only other person who has over 900 runs against an opponent, which is against Punjab Kings. MS Dhoni has 823 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Suresh Raina has 818 runs against Mumbai Indians.

Rohit has hit 5249 runs with one century and 39 half-centuries. The only century that he has ever hit is 109 against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in IPL 2012. In fact, Rohit has hurt Kolkata Knight Riders on a regular basis. In IPL 2009, Rohit, while playing for Deccan Chargers, blasted 26 runs in one over bowled by Mashrafe Mortaza.

The Mumbai batsman is in a league of his own when it comes to hurting opponents. He has over 200 sixes in the IPL and is the fifth player aftr Kohli, Raina, Shikhar Dhawan and Warner to hit over 5000 runs in the IPL. If Rohit achieves the feat of 1000 runs against one opponent, then it will be another feather in that big cap of his.
