Anushka Sharma praised India captain Harmanpreet Kaur after the side fell to Australia in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup semifinals. The actress resorted to Instagram Stories to respond to a popular video of Harmanpreet using dark sunglasses to mask her sorrow after losing. She was among several who spoke out in favour of the Women’s team leader. The ‘Zero’ actress commented on the news piece, saying, “Always proud of you and your team captain.” She also tagged the player and used a blue heart emoji to represent Team India’s shirt. She also tweeted a video from the ICC T20 World Cup and captioned it, “These ladies,” with loving emojis. The video featured former Indian skipper Anjum Chopra consoling Harmanpreet as she broke down after the loss in the semi-final.

India’s hunt for a global title continued on Thursday, as they were defeated by Australia in the quarterfinal of the 2017 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, where the Aussies’ nerves triumphed against excellent innings from captain Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues. Kaur was caught offside during the semi-final against Australia at a vital point in the game. The India skipper, who made it out to the middle despite being sick, was playing superbly to achieve her half-century and put her team in contention to chase Australia’s 172/4. Nevertheless, Kaur was sent back to the dugout after her bat stuck in the wicket as she ran it in, leaving her short of her ground as she was run out for 52.

Anushka is to be seen in Jhulam’s biopic next

Anushka’s professional appearance will be in the forthcoming film Chakda Xpress. Prosit Roy directed the sports biopic, which is based on the life of former Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami. For the first time in her career, Anushka will be seen playing a cricketer. The sports drama will also make its Netflix debut. Karnesh Sharma, Anushka’s brother, will produce ‘Chakda Xpress’ through his home production firm Clean Slate Filmz.

Jhulan Goswami would undoubtedly be inducted into the BCCI’s ‘Hall of Fame’ for women’s cricket in India. A decade and a half after breaking onto the scene, Goswami, who was once one of the quickest bowlers in the women’s game, has garnered benefits via control and minute deviations off the field. In May, she eclipsed Cathryn Fitzpatrick for the most ODI wickets in women’s history. She is now a coach to a fresh set of Indian fast bowlers rising through the ranks. When she was chosen vice-captain of the national team prior to the 2006 tour of England, she was positioned for a leadership role.

There, she contributed to India’s Test series victories, including their first victory over England, scoring fifty as a night watchman in the first Test at Leicester and recording her career-best match statistics of 10 for 78 – 5 for 33 and 5 for 45 – in the second Test at Taunton. Her achievements earned her the title of Player of the Series, as well as recognition at the Castrol Awards in Mumbai in September, when she got a Special Award. She also won the ICC Women’s Player of the Year title in 2007, a year in which no Indian male player received an individual honour. She was soon appointed captain of the national squad. Finally, in 2010, she received the renowned Arjuna Award. Two years later, he was awarded the Padma Shri.
