Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Tim Seifert has tested positive for COVID-19 and will not be travelling back to New Zealand on the charter flight with other IPL players from the same contingent, support staff and commentators. He tested positive for the virus on the eve of his departure.

The New Zealand wicket-keeper batsman failed both his pre-departure PCR tests and, as a result, will be going into isolation. Seifert will be treated at a Chennai hospital for his recovery before he is transported back home.

The immediate health advice on Seifert is that he is experiencing moderate symptoms after returning positive results.

“Once Seifert has undergone treatment and the statutory period of isolation and has tested negative for Covid-19, he will be transferred back to New Zealand where he will undergo the mandatory 14-day period of managed isolation,”

“It’s really unfortunate for Tim and we’ll do everything for him that we can from this end, and hopefully he will be able to test negative, and be cleared and approved for discharge as soon as he’s well again,” David White, chief executive of New Zealand Cricket (NZC), said.

“Since receiving the news, we’ve organised support for Tim and have also – via the players association, been in contact with his family to ensure they’re kept fully informed and updated on developments.”

Mike Hussey tests negative for COVID-19

According to the statement, Seifert will be treated at the same medical facility in Chennai wherein CSK’s batting coach and former Australia cricketer Michael Hussey has undergone his treatment. Meanwhile, cricket.com.au has reported thar Hussey has now tested negative for the virus and will be out of isolation soon.

There have also been changes to the arrangements for New Zealand’s England-bound Test contingent, with captain Kane Williamson, Mitchell Santner, Kyle Jamieson and team physio, been transferred to the Maldives. They were initially reported to be in a mini bio-secure bubble in New Delhi. However, it has turned out that the five New Zealanders are actually in the Maldives and not in India.
