Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday registered their highest ever total against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Kolkata-based franchise posted a score of 187 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs, after being sent in to bat. Nitish Rana was the highest run-scorer, accumulating 80 runs off 56 deliveries. Rana reached this tally of runs on the back of nine boundaries and four sixes.

The 27-year-old who was sent in to open the innings looked well capable of becoming the second KKR batsman to score a century in the cash-rich league, after current coach Brendon McCullum’s 158*. McCullum had scored an unbeaten 158 on the opening day of the first edition of the IPL against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Rahul Tripathi Provides Valuable Support

Rahul Tripathi was the next highest run-getter, smashing 53 runs off 29 deliveries on the back of five boundaries and two sixes. The rest of the players barring wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik failed to make much of an impact. Dinesh helped KKR finish on a strong note, scoring 22 runs off 9 balls in an innings comprising of two boundaries and a six. The rest of the batsmen: Shubman Gill, Andre Russell, Eoin Morgan and Shakib Al Hasan failed to cross the 20-run mark.

Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan were the pick of the bowlers for the Hyderabad-based franchise, accounting for two wickets apiece. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan chipped in with a dismissal apiece.
