After a no-show on Monday, India and South Africa resumed their battle on day 3 in the ongoing Test match at the Centurion, South Africa. India resumed at 273/3 after day 1 heroics from KL Rahul. However, India did not start in the same fashion as they left on day 1. The visitors suffered a batting collapse, losing 7 wickets for just 54 runs and ending the Indian batting at 327. Lungi Ngidi finished with 6 wickets to his name while Kagiso Rabada had 3 of his own. The Proteas had their chins up after an impressive bowling display, however, with the sun shining down and the ball moving all around, the Indian bowlers also made the most of it. By the end of session 2, the proteas were struggling at 109/5.

SHAMI, BUMRAH SHOWING THEIR WORTH

Just 4 overs into the day’s play the short ball stuff from Rabada cramped up Rahul for room with a bouncer aimed at his rib cage. Rahul was late to react his pull, and got a nick that Quinton de Kock comfortably collected. Rahul’s wicket lead to the collapse of the Indian batting. Just 2 overs later, Ngidi got Ajinkya Rahane, who must have been gutted to miss out on a big score after getting off to such a good start. He fell just two short of a well-deserved half-century, nicking a short-of-length ball outside off to the keeper. Ashwin, Pant, Shardul couldn’t get into double digits and gave their wickets away in regular intervals.

With the ball, Jasprit Bumrah got India off to a spectacular start. In the first over, he bagged skipper Dean Elgar with a peach of a delivery which was caught by Pant behind the stumps. Next, Keegan Peterson was clean bowled by Shami as South Africa lost their second wicket right after the lunch break. 3 overs later, Shami struck again, sending Markram back to the dressing room as he cleaned him up. By the end of session 2, South Africa were struggling at 109/5. However, Bumrah had limped off the field after spraining his ankle while bowling.
