Watch as Rishabh Pant leaves Rahul Dravid animated with a thunderous century.
Rishabh Pant (146) put India on the driver’s seat at stumps on Day 1 of the fifth and final rescheduled Test against England at the Edgbaston, Birmingham on Friday. Pant notched up a brilliant century to rescue the hosts from 98/5 to 320/6. The visiting Indian side finished the day on 338/7 which also marked their highest score on the first day of a Test in England.
The Indian top-order fell like a pack of cards as they failed to show resilience against some brilliant bowling from veteran James Anderson and young Matty Potts. Shubman Gill (17) was the first wicket to fall with his fellow opener and Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara (13) failing to make the most of his county cricket experience. Hanuman Vihari (20) and Virat Kohli, too, followed the suit in quick succession but Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja (83 not out) looked on a rescue mission and they succeeded.
Pant notched up 20 boundaries and four hits over the top in his 111-ball entertaining innings. The innings not only boasted Team India’s chances of winning the series but also left their coach Rahul Dravid animated in the dressing room in a rare occurrence. The video of the reaction from the ever calm Dravid went viral on social media within minutes.
