After a victory against Australia in the Mohali ODI, India surpasses Pakistan in the ODI rankings, making them the top-ranked team in all formats of men’s cricket. India joins South Africa as the only two teams to achieve this milestone, with South Africa doing so in August 2012. With 116 rating points, India now leads Pakistan by a single point. However, India could slide down the rankings if Australia manages to win the remaining two matches in the series. Throughout this month, India, Pakistan, and Australia were all vying for the top spot.

Pakistan secured the position at the end of the Asia Cup, despite their lacklustre performance. Australia’s challenge waned after losing three consecutive ODIs to South Africa. India clinched their eighth Asia Cup title by convincingly defeating Sri Lanka in the final and followed it up with a comfortable victory over Pat Cummins’ Australian team. Mohammed Shami starred with a career-best five-wicket haul, and four of India’s top six batsmen notched half-centuries.
