The BCCI has outlined the plans for the Indian cricket team as they prepare for the ICC World Test Championship against New Zealand. The Indian cricket board has also outlined the plan for their near four-month stay in the United Kingdom. A BCCI official speaking to ANI has outlined three broad details of India’s stay in the United Kingdom. The official stated that the Indian cricket team will get into an eight-day bio-bubble from May 25.

From June 2, India will go into a 10-day quarantine in the United Kingdom. However, they can train and practice as they have already been in the bio-bubble. Since the Indian cricket team will be in the United Kingdom for close to four months, families will be allowed to travel with the team. Since players will be moving from one bubble to another, they can train and will be tested regularly. However, there will be no further movement.

The ICC World Test Championship will be played from June 18 to June 22 in Southampton against New Zealand. After that, there is no action in July. India will take on England for five Tests from August 4 that will be played till September 14.

‘Standby players to double as net bowlers’

The BCCI announced a 20-man squad for the ICC World Test Championship and the five Tests. In addition, there were three standby bowlers in the form of Prasidh Krishna, Arzan Nagaswalla and Avesh Khan. With India having six bowlers in the team, the BCCI official said they would double up as net bowlers.

“Six fast bowlers in the main squad should be good enough unless you are unfortunate and have injuries. So, these three will double up as net bowlers while keeping preparations are been done for the matches,” the BCCI official stated.

As far as the vaccination is concerned, the Indian government is on the third stage of COVID-19 vaccination for the ages of 18 to 44. However, with the potentially in the UK, there is no clear picture of whether the team will take the vaccine in India or will it be taken in the UK. The BCCI official has said the second dose will be a big issue.
