Team India registered a comfortable victory over England in the 1st T20I at The Rose Bowl in Southampton on July 7. India won the toss and opted to bat first. They got off to a steady start with Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan adding 29 runs within 3 overs. Later, Deepak Hooda and Suryakumar Yadav steadied the ship with 33 and 39 respectively. However, it was Hardik Pandya who smashed a quickfire 51 and helped India put up 198 runs in their allotted 20 overs as well.

While chasing, Bhuvneshwar Kumar removed the dangerous Jos Buttler on a golden duck. Jason Roy too looked uncomfortable in the middle, scoring 4 off 16. However, Moeen Ali and Chris Jordan played quick cameos of 36 and 26* respectively but that wasn’t enough for them to reach the target as they were bundled out for 148 runs in 19.3 overs. Hardik Pandya was the chief destructor as he returned with the figures of 4 for 33. With this win, India took a lead of 1-0 in the three-match series. Both teams will take on each other at Edgbaston in Birmingham on July 9, Saturday.
