Bahrain will face Hong Kong in the ACC Women’s T20 Championship 2022 at the Kinara Oval, Kuala Lumpur on Sunday. Bahrain played their last match in the tournament against Kuwait while Hong Kong faced Bhutan in their inaugural fixture of the ACC Women’s T20 Championship which made a return after nine years.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) granted full Women’s Twenty20 International (WT20I) status to all its members in April 2018. Since then, all the matches that Bahrain and Hong Kong have played; has been considered as full WT20I. Hong Kong played its first WT20I match against Indonesia on January 12, 2019 at Bangkok during the Thailand Women’s T20 Smash.
The ACC Women’s T20 Championship 2022 will be a chance for both the sides to integrate themselves among the top teams in Asia. Two top teams in the tournament will earn a direct qualification to the Women’s T20 Asia Cup, where they will join India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Thailand. The Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2022 is scheduled to be played later this year in Bangladesh.
