0 wins. 32 losses and one cancellation. This is officially Bangladesh’s record in New Zealand across all formats. The numbers only reflect the dismal condition of Bangladesh following the recent series against New Zealand. Ever since 2001, Bangladesh has lost nine out of 10 Tests. They have lost 16 consecutive ODIs while their Twenty20 losses stretched to seven in New Zealand.

The heavy loss in the third T20I in Auckland made Bangladesh achieve an unwanted record. They have become the first nation to also lose 10 consecutive Twenty20 Internationals against one particular team. The rain-curtailed match at Eden Park had earlier seen the Women’s game between Australia and New Zealand abandoned.

Allen, Astle fire for NZ

Finn Allen showed his brilliance as he blasted 71 off just 29 balls. He also shared a partnership of 85 with Martin Guptill off just 34 balls. Bangladesh never recovered after Nasum Ahmed conceded 20 runs in the third over of the match. Allen notched up his fifty off just 18 balls, making him the second-fastest New Zealand player after Colin Munro. 32 runs in the last three overs saw New Zealand end on 141/4 in 10 overs.

Bangladesh never got going in the big chase. Todd Astle took 4/13 and he got great support from skipper Tim Southee who ended with 3/15. Adam Milne, Lockie Ferguson and Glenn Phillips took wickets as New Zealand bowled Bangladesh out for 76 in 9.3 overs.

This tour has been a colossal disaster for Bangladesh. Tamim Iqbal, the Bangladesh skipper said the limited-overs side ‘was going nowhere’. On the other hand, New Zealand finished what was their best season at home. The Black Caps registered wins against Pakistan, West Indies, Australia and now Bangladesh across all formats.

New Zealand’s next assignment will be the ICC World Test Championship final in Southampton against India. The match will be played in Southampton in June following the end of the IPL.
