Reigning world champion Nikhat Zareen stormed into the semi-final of the Women’s light flyweight category in Birmingham 2022. Nikhat was ruthless right from the beginning and completely dominated Helen Jones of Wales. This attained her a position in the final four as she registered a unanimous verdict win against Helen. The 26-year-old is now a major favorite to clinch the gold medal in her category. Her semi-final bout is against England’s Savannah Alfia Stubley which kicks off on August 6. A gold medal victory at the Commonwealth Games will certainly elevate her confidence for upcoming major competitions.

The Nizamabad-born pugilist made headlines in 2011 by becoming the Youth World Champion. Nikhat became the world champion at the senior level after defeating Jitpong Jutamus in Women’s World Championships. She is the only pugilist after Mary Kom to own a World Championships gold outside India.
