One of the strongest medal contenders, Nikhat Zareen will be seen in action against Welsh boxer Helen Jones in her Quarter-final match. The world champion defeated Mozambique’s Helena Ismael Bagao in a unanimous verdict to move into the Quarters. Nikhat who competes in the Light Flyweight class will be eyeing a Gold medal on her CWG debut.

The 26-year-old won the Gold in the Women’s World Championships defeating Thailand’s Jitpong Jutamas held in Istanbul, Turkey. With this, she became the fifth female boxer to win a gold in World Championships. Besides Mary Kom, Zareen is the only boxer to bag a World Championships gold outside India. The pugilist emerged victorious against Ukraine’s Telina Rob in the Strandja Memorial Boxing Tournament in 2022. Winning a Gold medal at the prestigious CWG will surely enhance her confidence for the upcoming mega tournaments.
