Prominent boxers including World champion Nikhat Zareen and Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain are set to compete in the National Women’s Boxing Championships, which will begin on December 20, 2022 in Bhopal. Parveen Hooda, who won bronze at the World Championship and is the reigning Asian champion, will also take part in the competition. However, Commonwealth Games gold medalist Nitu Ghanghas will not be participating in the event.

As part of her training for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Nikhat, who won the gold medal at the world championships in the weight class of 52 kg and the gold at the Commonwealth Games in the weight class of 50 kg, will compete here in the weight class of 50 kg. Lovlina, who demonstrated her ability at 75 kg by winning the Asian title, will take advantage of the chance to evaluate herself once more in the heavier weight class before the 2023 calendar. As Arundhati Choudhary, the youth world champion will be competing in the same weight class as Lovlina, one can anticipate a clash between the two.

Parveen stepped up to compete in 66kg with an eye on the Olympics after winning her Worlds medal and Asian title in 63kg. Ankushita Boro, a former World youth champion and Asian bronze medalist, could give her a tough battle. For the first time, a national event will use the bout review system that the International Boxing Association (IBA) instituted earlier this year.
