UK Anti-Doping has announced a provisional suspension of Conor Benn from boxing, the organization said on Thursday. Benn’s catchweight “grudge” match against British foe Chris Eubank Jr. was postponed in October last year after traces of the fertility medication clomiphene, which is known to increase testosterone levels in men, were discovered in his urine. Benn had asserted that he had not consumed any illegal substances knowingly or with malice. The World Boxing Council exonerated Benn for doping in February after concluding that his “highly-elevated consumption of eggs” was a “reasonable explanation” for the positive result.

However, according to a statement released by UKAD on Thursday, “UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) confirms that Conor Benn was informed and provisionally suspended by UKAD on March 15, 2023, by UK Anti-Doping Rules. The British Boxing Board of Control or any other organization that organizes convenes, authorizes, or recognizes a World Anti-Doping Code-compliant sport is not allowed for Mr. Benn to participate in any capacity (or to help another athlete in any capacity) while he is on a provisional suspension.

“UKAD can also confirm that it accused Mr. Benn of violating Article 2.2 on April 3, 2023, for the alleged use of a controlled substance (clomiphene). The UK Anti-Doping Rules’ results management procedure will be used to handle Mr. Benn’s charge, which is still pending.” Benn tweeted this week in response to a Boxing News report that he had been temporarily suspended: “I am in contact with UKAD, but I am unable to comment on anything related to them. I’m still allowed to fight outside of the UK. “

The BBBofC can ask other governing bodies to forbid the undefeated Londoner from competing abroad after Benn renounced his British boxing license after testing positive. The fight in October was meant to be a continuation of the Nigel Benn vs. Chris Eubank Sr. Feud that began in the early 1990s when the rivals’ fathers engaged in two brutal fights. Benn would have had to move up two weight divisions, and Eubank would have had to shed three pounds, for the sons to continue the family feud at a catchweight of 157 pounds (71.2kg).

Conor Nigel Benn

British professional boxer Conor Nigel Benn (born on September 28, 1996) has held the WBA Continental welterweight title since 2018. He is the son of former two-division world boxing champion Nigel Benn. According to ESPN, The Ring, BoxRec, and the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board, Benn is currently ranked as the ninth-best active welterweight in the world as of May 2022.

Because of his father Nigel’s successful boxing career, Benn had a privileged upbringing. He lived with his family in a gated, eight-bedroom mansion with a pool and a Jacuzzi in his room for twelve of his formative years on the Spanish island of Mallorca. Despite this, his father instilled in him a sense of financial independence by never giving him money; according to Benn, he made $20 per day painting and decorating in Spain. He also spent time in Australia, where he began his amateur boxing career before beginning his professional one.
