Mohammad Hassamuddin will face Md Salim Hossain of Bangladesh in the next round for a place in the Men’s 54-57kg quarterfinals in a Round of 16 clash on Monday. Hassamuddin, a bronze medallist in the last CWG in 2018, defeated young Amzolele Dyeyi of South Africa 5-0 in an unanimous verdict in the previous round. He used his better technique and strength to great advantage to manage another win in Birmingham. The 27-year-old Hassamuddin, who hails from Nizamabad in Telangana, was scored 30-27, 29-28, 29-28, 29-28 and 30-28 in his previous fight against Dyeyi.

The boxing contingent sees three pugilists as medal hopefuls including Amit Panghal and Ashish Kumar in action. India’s Shiva Thapa was earlier knocked out which puts the onus on the remaining pugilists to perform and bring home the medals in maximum. Thapa looked good initially but was outsmarted losing 4-1 to Scotland’s Lynch Reese. Thapa had defeated Pakistan’s Suleman Baloch 5-0 in the first round of the men’s 63 Kg weight category on Friday.
