Floyd Mayweather Jr. will return to the ring this weekend for an exhibition boxing contest against Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Mikuru Asakura. The exhibition fight will take place on Sunday, September 25 at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan. He will compete in Japan for the first time since he defeated kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in 2018. MMA opponent Asakura has won in 16 of his 19 matches. His most recent victory came against Utaka Saito in December last year.

Following this exhibition match, Mayweather will square off with YouTuber Deji in November. He has also declared that he will fight against Conor McGregor in a much-anticipated rematch in 2023. In their previous encounter which took place at the light middleweight limit, Mayweather emerged as the winner via TKO. He competed as a professional boxer between 1996 and 2017, ending his career with a perfect record (50 victories, 27 by knockout) and 15 major world titles ranging from super featherweight to light middleweight. The American is one of the most profitable pay-per-view attractions in sports history. He topped the Forbes and Sports Illustrated lists of the 50 highest-paid athletes in 2012 and 2013. He again led the Forbes list in 2014 and 2015 as the world’s highest-paid athlete.

Asakura is a member of Tri-Force Jiu-Jitsu Academy and competes outside of Tokyo, Japan. He also has a purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He now competes for Rizin Fighting Federation in the featherweight division, but he has also participated in Road Fighting Championship, Fighting Network Rings, and DEEP. Besides being a mixed martial artist, he is well-known as a YouTuber in Japan. The 29-year-old southpaw has a 16-3 record overall with 8 knockouts and 1 no contest to his credit.
