Fernando Martinez will face Jerwin Ancajas at the Home Depot Center in Carson on Saturday, October 8, 2022. The Super Flyweight category will have a 12-round battle with a 115-pound maximum weight limit (8.2 stone or 52.2 KG). Martinez competed in the World Boxing Organization’s World Series of Boxing and the 2016 Olympics before turning professional in 2017. He won his first nine fights in Argentina before traveling to South Africa to defeat Athenkosi Dumezweni (TKO 11). Whereas, Ancajas won the IBF title in September 2016 after defeating McJoe Arroyo and successfully defended it nine times. He has victories over Israel Gonzalez, Jamie Conlan, and Teiru Kinoshita. The Filipino fought on a regular basis on the road, competing in Macau, Australia, Ireland, the United States, and Mexico.
In their previous clash, Ancajas lost his world championship against Martinez by unanimous decision this February. The 30-year-old Ancajas had spent the majority of his career competing in the super flyweight division and was making his ninth attempt to defend his title when he was defeated by Martinez. Ancajas will step into the ring with a record of 33 wins, two losses, and two ties, with 22 of those victories via knockout. Martinez enters the ring with an undefeated record of 14 wins, zero losses, and zero draws, with eight of those victories coming by knockout.
The LIVE Streaming of the IBF Junior Super Flyweight Title match between Fernando Martinez and Jerwin Ancajas will be available on Showtime in the United States, TV Azteca in Mexico, and ESPN in Latin America.
