Basketball is a game that requires immense skill. One factor of the game is the height. Taller the player, the better chance he has of scoring a basket. However, height is not the only factor that tips the scales for the player. There are shorter players but their accuracy and agility on the court is simply amazing. However, having a tall player on the court gives the squad an added boost and it also increases the curiosity of the fans only because his presence will create a buzz. The list of tall players can be divided into two specific periods. One, which are in history and the other among the current lot of players in the NBA.

If one look at history, the tallest player in the history of the NBA was Romanian Gheorghe Muresan, who played for the Washington Bullets and the New Jersey Nets in the period from 1993 to 2000. Muresan measured seven foot seven inches and weighed 143 kgs, making him the tallest player ever to play the NBA. The next biggest was Sudan’s Manute Bol, who played for the Washington Bullets in the 80s. Bol was seven foot six inches tall and the next best was Slavko Vranes from Montenegro who had the same height and played for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

However, the biggest in the modern era was China’s Yao Ming who at seven foot and six inches showed his class for the Houston Rockets in the early part of the 2000s. The tallest American player was Shawn Bradley who also measured seven foot six inches as he played for the Philadelphia 76ers. The tallest foreign player of Indian origin was Canada’s Sim Bhullar who measured seven foot and five inches. However, in the modern era of NBA, in the current season, players have had to officially measure their heights by taking their shoes off and these are the tallest players currently in the roster.

Modern era Giants

Currently, the tallest player in the NBA is Tacko Fall of the Boston Celtics who measures a staggering seven foot and six inches. However, if he wears shoes, then he is level with Muresan with seven foot seven inches but since the measurement is now without shoes, his height has decreased slightly. His measurements at the 2019 NBA Draft Combine set all-time NBA records for tallest height in shoes, largest wingspan which was eight feet and highest standing reach which is 10 feet or over three meters.

He is followed closely by Kristaps Porzingis and Boban Marjanovic of the Dallas Mavericks who measures seven foot and three inches. Salah Mejri of the Dallas Mavericks is at a height of seven foot two inches. Thus, it is safe to assume that the Dallas Mavericks have a gigantic team.

Mo Bamba, who plays for the Orlando magic, measures seven foot one inch and along with Dragan Bender of the Milwaukee Bucks, Tyson Chandler of the Houston Rockets, Marc Gasol of the Toronto Raptors, Rudy Bobert of the Utah Jazz, Luke Kornet of the Chicago Bulls, Alex Len of the Atlanta Hawks, Mayers Leonard of Miami Heat, Mitchell Robinson of the New York Knocks, Ivica Zubac of the Los Angeles Clippers.
