Star basketball player Stephen Curry has agreed a massive new contract extension with the Golden State Warriors. Curry, who’s been part of the side since 2009, will make 215 million USD on a four-year contract. It is worth noting that this isn’t the first contract he’s signed that has guaranteed him in excess of a 200 million USD figure. In 2017, he signed a five-year deal worth 201 million USD. It was the richest-ever deal in the NBA for a single player at that point. That is, of course, until James Harden topped it with a 228 million USD extension from the Houston Rockets. But Curry’s new contract makes him the first player to sign two deals in excess of 200 million USD.

After the season ended, Curry thanked his teammates for all they did to allow him to be at his best night after night. This is even when he had to spend hours in the trainer’s room to keep his body healthy and fresh.

Curry was limited to five games during the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 season primarily because of a broken left hand. He then played 63 games last season while missing time because of a bruised tailbone that bothered him down the stretch.

What next for Stephen Curry and GSW?

“I appreciate everybody out there committing to how we play, and that’s really unlocked what I do best,” Curry said.

“That was huge, but God is good. I’ve been blessed to be back healthy and be able to just play night in, night out at a high level.

“And the work that goes into it, it pays off. And it’s something that I really, really rely on, especially at this point in my career. As the years go on, that is the difference maker for me.”

Curry was drafted seventh overall out of Davidson in 2009. Since then, he has repeatedly proven any doubters he had wrong.

He led the Warriors to five straight NBA Finals and championships in 2015, 2017 and 2018.

“I’m really proud of what I put in to it, and the team, they know who they are, that help me and push me and motivate me.

“I’m going to keep doing that until I can’t anymore. I don’t know how long that’ll be but that’s the difference-maker for me.”

The next target, naturally, will be to add to that list of final appearances. And maybe titles won too.
