South Korea will face USA in the heated competition of the FIBA woman’s world cup. The United States has qualified for the FIBA Women’s World Cup quarterfinals with their 77-63 victory against China. They are now the only unbeaten team in Group A as a result of the victory. Due to a short window between the conclusion of the 2022 WNBA season and the start of the World Cup in Sydney, Australia, the USA played China on Saturday for the first time with its whole squad.
The last player to arrive, A’ja Wilson, scored a game-high 20 points for the squad while also pulling down eight rebounds. In her debut start, Wilson’s Las Vegas Aces colleague and fellow 2022 WBA champion Chelsea Gray finished with 12 points, six rebounds, and three assists. One of them was Connecticut Sun forward Alyssa Thomas, who had back-to-back triple-doubles in the WNBA Finals. In her team-leading 32 minutes on the court, Thomas was the third USA player to score double figures (12 points), and she also added eight rebounds and five assists.
The USA has played three hard games against China, Puerto Rico, and Belgium while being unbeaten. It will be intriguing to watch how Reeve and her staff handle the following two preliminary games now that the USA has won the first of four positions in the quarterfinals. The top three teams to emerge from Group A are probably going to be the United States, China, and Belgium. The fourth and last team to move to the quarterfinals is still up for grabs, and it could be either Puerto Rico, South Korea, or Bosnia and Herzegovina. Now for South Korea to have any chance of going into the quarter-finals, they must win their match against the USA.
