The Phoenix Mercury will head to the Barclays Center for a WNBA matchup against the New York Liberty on Sunday, July 31. Both these sides will be looking for the win as it will help boost their morale for the upcoming fixtures.
The Mercury are coming into the encounter on the back of a stellar 90-80 win against the LA Sparks. Diana Taurasi scored a game-high 30 points and grabbed 6 rebounds on the night. Her stellar performance helped her enter the history books as she became the first WNBA player aged 40 or above to score 30 points. Skylar Diggins -Smith further eased things up for the team from Phoenix as she racked up 27 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. They will be looking to carry the momentum and get to their third straight win when they take on the Liberty on Sunday.
The team from New York have not had a very impressive season. Their loss against the Chicago Sky on Friday was their eighteen one of the season. Sabrina Ionescu and Natasha Howard tried to keep them in the game scoring 16 and 15 points respectively. However, the defending champions were way too determined on the night. They put on a brilliant defensive show in the fourth quarter to register a stunning 89-91 win. New York is currently languishing at the eleventh place on the table. They need to buckle up soon or else they may very well miss out on a spot in the playoffs.
The Mercury has reported Diamond DeShields to be doubtful for the game on Sunday, while Kia Nurse is listed to be out as she continues to recover from an ACL injury she suffered last playoffs. Betnijah Laney is the only player that will sit out for New York Liberty.
