On July 30, the women’s 3×3 basketball Commonwealth Games match between New Zealand vs England will take place. The entire competition schedules for basketball 3×3 and wheelchair basketball 3×3 have been made public by Birmingham 2022. Eight men’s and eight women’s teams will compete in the running version of the sport, whilst six men’s teams and six women’s teams will compete in the Wheelchair Basketball 3×3 tournament’s maiden Commonwealth Games competition. On Friday, July 29, the Canadian men’s team will play Kenya in the first group match. The women’s tournament will thereafter have Australia and Scotland as competitors. In the first round of the wheelchair basketball 3×3 tournament, the men’s team will play South Africa, and the women’s team will play Kenya.
The second session of the day included matches between the men and Canada, the women and Sri Lanka, and the women’s wheelchair team and Australia. Day two’s opening session will include a matchup between the men’s and women’s running basketball teams and Malaysia, as well as the men’s wheelchair basketball 3×3 squad. As both wheelchair teams will compete in the evening session, the Australian team will enjoy a full day on day three. The final group match between the men’s running team and England will then follow.
After the group matches are finished on Sunday, July 31, the quarterfinals and semifinals will be played. On Tuesday, August 2, the classification and bronze medal matches will be played in the afternoon session, while the gold medal matches will be played in the evening session. The Commonwealth movement has played a significant role in the growth and degree of participation of wheelchair basketball. It has also strengthened our relationship with FIBA, and the programme is anticipated to feature some spectacular performances.
