The New York Liberty will head to the Wintrust Arena for the first game of the 2022 WNBA Playoffs against the Chicago Sky on Wednesday. The Liberty finished the regular season at the seventh spot. While the defending champions claimed the second spot to set up a first-round playoff matchup.
Heading into the playoffs, the Liberty are high on confidence as they pulled off three consecutive wins in the regular season games. With a lot to play for, they faced off against the Atlanta Dream on Sunday. The team was able to get to an 87-83 win on the night. Natasha Howard and Marine Johannesracked 18 points each for Liberty. Stefanie Dolson added 15 points and bagged 12 boards, which further eased things for the team. Both teams were neck and neck throughout the game, but in the end, the Liberty edged out a four-point win and cemented their place in the playoffs.
Meanwhile, the Sky also got to a stunning win against the Phoenix Mercury ahead of the playoffs. They had already established their spot in the playoffs, but the team still gave in their best on Sunday to get to an 82-67 win. Azura Stevens led the way as she scored 17 points off the bench for the Sky. Allie Quigley also added 14 points for the team. Emma Meesseman and Kahleah Copper combined to score 22 points and with all of these efforts, the Sky were able to cruise their way to a win. The defending champs will be a side to beat in the playoffs. They will be looking to take a lead in the series and continue their pursuit of winning the prestigious trophy once again.
The New York Liberty have not reported any casualties ahead of the first game against the Sky. Meanwhile, the team from Chicago have listed Li Yueru to be out for the rest of the campaign due to personal reasons.
