On Friday, Greece defeated Turkey 72-71 in a game that served as a qualifier for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. Turkey had a 20-13 lead after one quarter, but the host team fought back to make the score 40-32 at the half. The Ano Liossia Olympic Sports Hall in Athens, Greece carried a four-point lead into the final frame with a score of 60-56. With three seconds left, Kostas Papanikolaou converted two free throws for Greece, giving the crowd a dramatic conclusion.
