Georgia and Spain are in complete control of Group G in Europe and have already guaranteed their places in the second qualifying round for the 2023 FIBA World Cup, which will be contested in August and September of that year. Due to the fact that they haven’t yet played their fourth group game, the Spanish are second in the group going into play on Friday, trailing 3-1 Georgia. However, Spain has really dominated, winning each of their three group games by an average of nearly 24 points.  Ukraine, who have won just one of their three group games, will almost probably join them in the upcoming qualifying round. With only three teams competing in Groups B and H as a result of Russia and Belarus’ disqualifications, the results of the teams that do qualify from Groups A and G against the last-placed team in those groups will not be carried over, even though the top three from each of these eight groups will advance to make up the 24-team second qualifying round as planned.

Current Form

With 1:10 remaining in the fourth quarter, Issuf Sanon ended the visiting team’s chances of winning the game. Vyacheslav Bobrov of Nanterre 92, a big man, guided Ukraine to victory. He ended the contest with 17 points (3/3 2PT, 2/3 3PT, 5/7 FT), as well as 8 rebounds. With 21 points (8/14 (2PT, 0/2 3PT, 5/9 FT), 5 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block, Tornike Shengelia was Georgia’s top scorer. Ivan Tkachenko 9, Artem Pustovyi 8, Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk 16, Vyacheslav Bobrov 17 (8 REB), and (6 REB).

Anticipated Winner

Spain will thus not need to put in any effort on Friday because they already have a punched ticket to the next round. Of course, North Macedonia is still theoretically eligible if it surpasses Ukraine. Plus, even a “going through the motions” performance by the hosts on Friday night at the Pabellon Principe Felipe in Zaragoza should be sufficient to prevail against a team that has lost by an average score of 20.3 points in these group games, including a 29-pointer to Spain ón November 26, in Skopje.
