The Dallas Wings will head to the Mohegan Sun Arena for Game 1 of their first-round playoff series against the Connecticut Sun on Thursday. The Wings qualified for the playoffs by finishing sixth on the table, while the Suns team came third behind the Las Vegas Aces and Chicago Sky. It certainly is going to be a thrilling encounter as both these sides will look to start off the series with a win.
The Dallas Wings’ last game before the playoffs was against the LA Sparks. They were able to easily dominate the Sparks as they handed them a 116-88 defeat on the night. Marina Mabrey led the way as she scored 27 points for the Wings. Teaira McCowan also had an impactful game as she scored 24 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Tyasha Harris, Kayla Thornton and Allisha Gray chipped in with 18, 15 and 14 points respectively to ease things for the Wings. They will be hoping to carry the same momentum into the playoffs.
Meanwhile, their opponents, the Connecticut Sun are also in brilliant form as they are coming off a three-game winning streak. Their last game in the regular season was against the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday. The team were able to bag a 90-83 win and cement third place in the standings. Alyssa Thomas scored 16 points and also contributed with 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Natisha Hiedeman and Brionna Jones chipped in with 15 points each to further help the Suns team. They are considered to be favorites to come out with a win in the series. Everything seems to be going in their favor, but no team can be taken lightly in the playoffs.
Satou Sabally and Arike Ogunbowale are both ruled out for the Dallas Wings on Thursday due to injuries. Isabelle Harrison is also considered to be questionable as she is recovering from a shoulder injury. As far as the Connecticut Sun are concerned, they will only be missing Bria Hartley as she is ruled out of the season due to an ACL injury.
