Andre Drummond has joined Los Angeles Lakers after clearing waivers and securing a buyout with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Drummond was benched by the Cavaliers despite having a productive season prior to that, with the franchise having acquired Jarrett Allen. Allen took over as the team’s starting centre despite the 27-year-old new Lakers signing averaging 17.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks in 28.9 minutes per game. This does not mean that Drummond does not have limitations. He certainly has a fair share of them, but his greatest asset: rebounding will certainly be well utilised at The Lakers.

The Lakers have been an average offensive rebounding team this season. This should certainly change following the addition of the 27-year-old. Drummond promises to emerge as a promising option in this scenario, considering the losses of JaVale McGee and Dwight Howard.

One of the best at offensive rebounds

The 27-year-old has averaged the most offensive rebounds in the league in all but two seasons after entering the NBA. The first was 2012-13, which represented the rookie stage of his career. The second instance has been recorded in this season. However, he is still one of the best with regard to offensive rebounds. His 4.0 offensive rebounds per game rank third behind Clint Capela (5.1) and Enes Kanter (4.3).

The 6-foot-10 and 279 pounds basketball star enjoys the ability to smell an opportunity out of nothing. This makes him a terror for the opposition. A small mistake here or there would allow Drummond to sneak his way into the paint and clear out space.

The presence of LeBron James and Anthony Davis would further lead to more offensive rebounds for the 27-year-old, considering the attention commanded by the duo. Defenders might well be left puzzled over the player to negotiate, resulting in potential opportunities being presented underneath the basket.
