Washington Wizards’ Russell Westbrook has provided a strong response to those who believe that failure to emerge victorious at every stage, would have a defining impact on his career. The Wizards are placed 2.5 games behind Chicago Bulls in the race for the final play-in spot. Westbrook is at risk of missing the postseason for the first time since 2015. It would also be the second time across his 13-season career, of such an eventuality occurring.

“I use my platform to help people all across the world. Nobody can take that away from me,” said Westbrook in an interaction with reporters as quoted by the official website of the NBA.

“I’ve been blessed to be able to have a platform to do it, and like I said before, a championship don’t change my life. I’m happy. I was a champion once I made it to the NBA. I grew up in the streets. I’m a champion. I don’t have to be an NBA champion,” he added.

Glorious Recent Run

Westbrook has been in fantastic form recently with the stats reflecting the same. The 32-year-old finished with 22 points, 15 rebounds and 14 assists, dropping a 114-104 decision to the Charlotte Hornets. The former MVP further became the first player in NBA to post 35 points and 20 assists in a single game, during the course of the ongoing campaign.

Not only this, Westbrook further produced a contender for dunk of the year in the final minute of the game against Charlotte. He rose up to throw down a strong jam on Bismack Biyombo, taking advantage of a hesitation move to blow by Gordon Hayward on the perimeter. The move was followed by a trademark scowl in vintage Russ fashion, as he walked to the free-throw line to complete the 3-point play.

Westbrook has stood out despite being in an unfamiliar position of playing for a struggling team. The nine-time All-Star and two-time scoring champion continues to impress one and all with his trademark intensity. It would be interesting to see if he achieves championship glory, which would only serve as another crown.
