The Monkeys, who were owned and operated by the shoe-making La New Corporation in Kaohsiung and later by the Japan-based electronic commerce and online retailing company Rakuten, made the playoffs for the first time in team history in 2006 and earned an automatic spot in the Taiwan Series by finishing the regular season with the best record.

From 2004 until 2010, the team played its home games at Chengcing Lake Baseball Field in Kaohsiung County, which is now a part of Kaohsiung City. Their home stadium was relocated to Taoyuan International Baseball Stadium for the 2011 campaign. The team was renamed the Lamigo Monkeys as a result, and current owner Rakuten still uses the “Monkeys” moniker.

A professional baseball team in Taiwan’s Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) is called the Fubon Guardians. Fubon Financial Holding Co. is the team’s owner, and they play their home games at New Taipei City’s Xinzhuang Baseball Stadium. The squad was acquired by Fubon Financial Holding Co. in November 2016, and the new name Fubon Guardians was given to it.
