American track and field athlete Valarie Carolyn Allman, popularly known as Valarie Allman, specializes in the discus throw. She is the current Olympic champion and a World championship 2022 bronze medalist. Allman is a seven-time All-American at Stanford University. Valarie Allman is presently working as a volunteer assistant track and field coach at the University of Texas since 2018-19. She is coached by Zebulon Sion and currently sponsored by Asics. The 27-year-old American athlete is also a two-time Diamond League champion. Her personal best throw is 71.46 m which she achieved on April 2022.

Senior Professional Career

Allman represented her country in the 2017 Summer Universiade, where she won the silver medal. At the 2017 World Championships, she came in 28th and failed to make the final. She was the national champion in 2018. She also won silver at the NACAC Championships and bronze in the Athletics World Cup in 2018. At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, she claimed the gold medal with a massive throw of 68.98 m. She went on to become the first American woman to win a discus throw medal at the 2022 World Athletics Championships as she took home the bronze medal. Her personal best in the discus competition is 71.46 m, which she achieved on April 8, 2022, at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla. The distance of this throw was the fifteenth-farthest ever recorded in 30 years.

Greatest Rivalry

Valarie’s greatest rival is Croatian discus thrower Sandra Perkovic. Perkovic a two-time Olympic and world champion, having won the Olympic titles in 2012 and 2016 and world titles in 2013 and 2017. In addition, she is a record six-time European champion and the first female athlete to have accomplished this feat.

Personal Life

Allman was born on February 23, 1995, to a family from Chester County, Pennsylvania, at the Christiana Hospital in Stanton. She grew up in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and went to high school in adjacent Longmont, Colorado. In 2017, she graduated from Stanford University with a B.S. in product design. Eventually, she applied to Stanford University and started studying for a master’s in communications. Valarie put her studies on hold so she could concentrate on getting ready for the 2021 Olympics. She currently resides in Austin, Texas, where she trains with Coach Zebulon Sion as a volunteer assistant at the University of Texas. Through 2020, she was supported by Oiselle and the New York Athletic Club. Asics is her current sponsor.
