Morgan Lake is a renowned British high jumper who clinched the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2018 and secured the fourth position in the 2022 edition of the Games. At the World Athletics Championships in 2017, she finished sixth, followed by a fourth-place finish at the World Indoor Championships in 2018. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, she became the first British woman to reach an Olympic high jump final since Debbie Marti in 1992. Lake has bagged a total of 12 national titles in the UK.

Junior Athletic Career

In 2013, Morgan Lake scripted history by breaking the UK Under-17 high jump record that had stood unchallenged for 29 years. After a year, she went on to destroy the 23-year-old UK U20 high jump record. In combined events, at just 17, Lake clinched both the high jump and heptathlon titles at the 2014 World U20 Championships. Furthermore, she achieved a new world record for the indoor U18 pentathlon in that same year. In 2015, she took home the title of European U20 high jump champion.

Senior Professional Career

In 2014, Morgan Lake burst onto the international scene, becoming the youngest-ever champion at the Multistars international event. Taking place on May 2 and 3, Lake exceeded the UK’s previous youth record for heptathlon and surpassed even the accomplishments of Olympic gold medalist Jessica Ennis-Hill at a similar age.

In May 2014, Lake surpassed a long-standing UK junior high jump record by jumping an incredible 1.93 meters. This stunning feat was followed by an outstanding showing at the Hypo-Meeting in Götzis, Austria. There, she ascended to the second rank on the UK U20 all-time list and improved the European U18 record with her stellar performances in the shot put, 200m, and javelin events.

At the World Junior Championships in Eugene, Oregon, Lake bagged a gold medal, topping the heptathlon table. She rounded off the event with an additional gold in the individual high jump competition. Lake also showcased her abilities at the 2016 Rio Olympics, achieving a personal best jump of 1.94 meters. In 2017, she achieved a personal best of 1.97 meters in Birmingham, the second-highest jump ever recorded by a British woman.

Although Lake faced a setback at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to injury, she didn’t let this deter her. She triumphed at the British Championships on several occasions. Lake achieved another major achievement in February 2023 when she set the British indoor high jump record, clearing 1.99 meters at the Hustopečské skákání event in Hustopeče, Czech Republic.
