Kathryn Moon, popularly known as Katie Moon, is a track and field athlete who represents the United States in pole vault competitions. She is the reigning Olympic and world champion, having won the titles in Tokyo Olympics 2020 and World Championships 2022 in Eugene, Oregon. She has a personal best of 4.95 meters which she achieved at the Olympic Trials in 2021. In indoors, her personal best is 4.94 meters.

Junior Athletic Career

Katie Nageotte started her sporting career as a high school pole vaulter. She took part in a number of competitions and graduated from high school with a state record jump of 3.97 meters. In the Division I Championship, she came in second place in 2008 and first place in 2009. Nageotte continued to excel in the pole vault even after starting her college career. She participated in multiple NCAA and USATF championships and took home multiple medals. She is a two-time NCAA Division II Pole Vault champion and three-time All-American winner.

Senior Professional Career

She competed in the Olympic Trial Games in 2016. She placed fifth with a mark of 4.60 m , which unfortunately prevented her from competing at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. In 2017, Katie competed at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships and finished second with a mark of 4.65m. She clinched the gold and silver medal at the USA Track and Field Championships Indoor and Outdoor respectively. Then she continued to win medals at the USA TF Championships in 2019. At the 2021 Olympic trials, she did a gigantic vault of 4.95m to qualify for the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 by finishing first. At the delayed Olympic games, she claimed the title with a mark of 4.90m to become the Olympic champion. In March 2022, she won the silver medal at the World Indoor Championships with a best effort of 4.75m. She then became the World Champion with a vault of 4.85m which is also the Championship record.

Coach

She is presently being coached by Brad Walker. According to her, he is the ideal coach for her. Brad also specialized in pole vault and is a former American record holder in pole vault. He is a World champion, having won the title in 2007. Walker, who was not considered a favorite at the 2005 World Championships, won silver with a timing of 5.75 seconds. With a jump of 5.80 meters in 2006, he captured the World Indoor Championships in Moscow. He claimed the pole vault competition in July 2006 with a clearance of 6 meters, which was the greatest result of the year. On September 1, 2007, he took home the gold at the world championships. Walker established a new personal and American record in Eugene on June 8, 2008, with a leap of 6.04. In 2009, Walker defended his US championship title.

Personal Life

Katie Moon’s birth name is Kathryn Nageotte. She was born on June 13, 1991, in Lakewood, Ohio, in the United States. Mark Nageoette is her father’s name, and Diane Negeoette is her mother’s name. She also has a sister named Emily and a brother named Andy. She attended Olmsted Falls High School for her education. She then attended two years at the University of Dayton in Dayton before transferring to Ashland University in Ashland, where she obtained a psychology degree and graduated in 2013. When she was a student, she also obtained a minor in fashion merchandising. After completing her degree, she planned to enrol in the Paris Fashion Institute Program to pursue a career in fashion. She is married to Hugo Moon.
